EDGE NOTESA small systems journal

ABOUT THIS NOTEBOOK

Operations,
with the reasoning left in.

Edge Notes is an independent technical notebook about small Linux systems, network protocols and dependable operating practices. It is written for people who need to understand a service well enough to change it, recover it and explain what happened.

What belongs here

Practical explanations, bounded experiments and tools that remove repetitive work. Each article links to a primary source. Commands are examples rather than a record of tests on a reader's machine. Network results depend on the client, path, workload and time; the notebook treats those details as part of the result.

A small technical footprint

The site is generated as static HTML and served over HTTPS. Search uses a local index. The toolbox processes its inputs in the browser, with no upload endpoint or third-party analytics. There are no accounts, advertising tags or remote fonts.

Editorial practice

Separate observation from inference. Prefer a targeted change to a collection of unexplained settings. Keep a rollback before changing a running service. If evidence is incomplete, say what remains unverified.

Maintenance

Updates are recorded in the changelog. The publishing archive preserves the article order; the reading page keeps the manuals close at hand. Nothing on this public site contains a private administration endpoint or access credential.
